Twitter (X) impressions, views and engagements explained
Published 24 September 2026 · 1 min read
X shows several numbers under and behind each post. They are easy to mix up, and the differences matter if you want to judge what is working.
The numbers
- Impressions: the number of times the post appeared on a screen, including repeats.
- Views: the public counter under posts and videos. For text posts it counts when the post is seen.
- Engagements: all interactions: likes, replies, reposts, link clicks, profile clicks and detail expands.
- Engagement rate: engagements divided by impressions.
How to read them together
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| High impressions, low engagement | People saw it but did not care; improve the first line |
| Low impressions, high engagement rate | A good post that did not travel; repost with a new hook |
| High profile clicks | People are curious about you; check your bio and pinned post |
Where to see them
Open a post and tap View post analytics, or use the Analytics page on desktop if available for your account type.
Services that adjust these numbers
Some services add impressions, views, profile clicks or link clicks. They change what the dashboard shows, not who your real audience is. See our Twitter services page.
