WhatsApp Channels guide: how Indian creators and shops can use them

Published 29 September 2026 · 1 min read

WhatsApp Channels are one-way broadcast feeds inside WhatsApp. Followers see updates in a separate Updates tab without sharing phone numbers with you or with each other. For Indian creators, coaching institutes and shops, they are a natural place to reach people who already live in WhatsApp.

What you can post

Text, photos, videos, links, polls and stickers. Followers can react with emojis but cannot reply, which keeps your channel clean.

Who uses them

  • Coaching institutes with daily updates and notes.
  • Shops announcing offers and new stock.
  • Creators and news pages sharing content.
  • Communities and local organisations.

How people find you

  • The channel directory in the Updates tab.
  • Your channel link shared on Instagram, your website, posters and in person.
  • Forwarded posts that include the channel name.

Growing a channel

  1. Put the link in your Instagram bio and stories.
  2. Post at a steady time.
  3. Give a reason to follow, such as “first to know about sales”.
  4. Keep posts short and useful.
  5. Use polls to get reactions.

Where numbers fit

A new channel with a handful of followers looks unproven. Some owners add a base of followers and reactions so that the channel does not look empty. Options are on our WhatsApp services page; keep numbers in proportion to your real audience.
