How many likes should an Instagram post have for your follower count?
Published 13 October 2026 · 1 min read
A believable page has numbers that line up. People may not do the maths consciously, but they feel when likes, views and followers do not match. Here are ranges to sanity-check your page.
Typical ranges
| Followers | Typical likes per post |
|---|---|
| 1,000 | 40 to 120 |
| 5,000 | 150 to 400 |
| 20,000 | 400 to 1,200 |
| 100,000 | 2,000 to 5,000 |
These are rough ranges based on common engagement rates of about 2% to 8% for small and mid-sized accounts. Niche, content type and audience quality shift them a lot.
What stands out as odd
- A large follower count with single-digit likes.
- One post with thousands of likes while all others have dozens.
- Likes far above views on reels.
- Likes arriving all at once and never again.
How to keep it natural
- If you add likes, spread them across several posts, not one.
- Keep them near the ranges above.
- Match them with a few real comments and saves.
- Keep posting real content.
Check your own numbers
Average the likes on your last ten posts and divide by your followers. Use the engagement rate calculator and compare with the table. See likes options if you decide to support key posts.
