Engagement: meaning and how it works
Published 1 October 2026
Engagement means any interaction with your content: likes, comments, saves, shares, replies and clicks.
Platforms read engagement as a sign that people value your content, so it influences how widely it is shown.
How it works in practice
Engagement is the broad family of actions people take. Passive actions such as viewing are not usually counted; active ones such as commenting, saving and sharing are.
Example
Example: a recipe reel with 400 likes, 90 saves and 25 shares has strong engagement because saves and shares are high-intent actions.
