YouTube monetisation requirements in India: subscribers, watch hours and more

Published 19 September 2026 · 1 min read

Monetisation is the goal for many creators. The rules change over time, so always check YouTube’s own Partner Programme page. Here is the standard path as it stands in general terms, and what is easy to overlook.

The usual thresholds

  • 1,000 subscribers.
  • 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or a qualifying number of Shorts views in the last 90 days.

YouTube has also introduced lower tiers for some features such as fan funding. Check the latest details before planning around them.

Other requirements

  • Follow YouTube’s channel monetisation policies.
  • Turn on 2-step verification.
  • Link an AdSense account for payments; you will need a PAN and bank details in India.
  • Live in a country where the programme is available. India is.

What YouTube reviews

After you apply, YouTube reviews your channel for policy compliance: original content, no reused content, no misleading metadata and no repetitive mass-produced videos. Meeting the numbers does not guarantee approval.

How to reach the numbers faster, honestly

  1. Make longer videos that keep their promise; they build watch hours faster.
  2. Create playlists so one video leads to the next.
  3. Use end screens pointing at your best video.
  4. Upload consistently.

A caution about shortcuts

Low-quality or artificial watch time may not count, can fail review or can be removed later. If you use any service, choose carefully, keep your content original and treat numbers as a supplement to real viewers, not a replacement.
