How to write YouTube titles that get searched and clicked

Published 22 September 2026 · 1 min read

A good title does two jobs: it matches what people search for, and it makes them want to click. Use our title length checker as you write. YouTube allows 100 characters, but about 60 show fully in search and on phones.

Formulas that work

  • How to + result: “How to Edit Reels on Phone Only (Free App)”.
  • Number + benefit: “7 Study Tricks That Helped Me Score 95% in Boards”.
  • Versus: “Jio vs Airtel: Which 5G Plan Is Actually Cheaper?”.
  • Mistake: “Avoid These 5 Mistakes When Buying a Laptop”.
  • Budget: “Best Phones Under ₹15,000 in 2026”.

Keyword first

Put the phrase people search near the start, then add the hook. “Instagram Reels Tips for Beginners | Get 10x Views” beats “10x Your Views With These Secrets for Instagram”. The first words carry the most weight.

Language

Hindi, Hinglish or regional titles do well when the video is in that language. Match the language of your audience and use the script they type searches in; many Indians search in Roman script even for Hindi topics.

Check demand before you commit

  1. Type your idea into YouTube search and read the suggestions.
  2. Look at the top results: are their views recent and strong?
  3. If the top videos are years old with low views, you have an opening.

Avoid

  • All caps and excessive punctuation.
  • Promising something the video does not deliver.
  • Year stamps you will not update.
