Click-through rate (CTR): meaning and how it works
Published 1 October 2026
Click-through rate is the percentage of people who click your video after seeing its thumbnail and title.
On YouTube, 4% to 10% is common. Better thumbnails and titles raise it.
How it works in practice
CTR depends on thumbnail, title and who the video is shown to. A low CTR on a broad audience is normal; a low CTR on a warm audience means the packaging is weak.
Example
Example: 5,000 impressions and 300 clicks is a 6% CTR, which is healthy for many channels.
