Community guidelines: meaning and how it works

Published 1 October 2026

Community guidelines are a platform’s rules about what content and behaviour are allowed.

Bought engagement is prohibited on most platforms, so there is always some risk.

How it works in practice

Guidelines cover spam, impersonation, hate, nudity and artificial engagement. Penalties range from removed content to disabled accounts.

Example

Example: a post is removed for breaking a guideline and the account’s reach is reduced for a while.
