Social proof for a local business: reviews, followers and photos that build trust
Published 9 October 2026 · 1 min read
A customer who has never heard of you will check three places before they trust you with money: Google, Instagram and WhatsApp. If they find nothing, or something that looks abandoned, many will move on to the next shop. Social proof is simply making those places show that real people trust you.
A trust checklist
- Google Business Profile with photos, hours, phone number and a handful of real reviews.
- Instagram with at least nine posts, a clear bio and highlights for prices, reviews and delivery.
- A real phone number that gets answered, and a WhatsApp click-to-chat link.
- Customer photos and short testimonials on your page.
- A consistent name, logo and address across every platform.
Instagram signals that matter locally
- A follower count that does not look brand new.
- Likes and comments that match the audience size.
- Recent posts, ideally from this week.
- Replies to comments and DMs.
Cheap ways to build proof
- Ask every happy customer for a Google review and a photo. A printed QR code at the counter helps.
- Repost customer stories with permission.
- Show the process behind your product: the kitchen, the workshop, the packing.
- If the page is brand new, add a modest base of followers and likes so it does not look empty; options are on our followers and likes pages.
Never fake reviews
Fake reviews are risky, can break consumer-protection rules, and are easy for customers to spot. Real reviews are free; ask for them.
Measure it
Once a month, look at how many people messaged after seeing a post, how many Google calls you got and how many new reviews came in. That tells you what proof is actually working.
